Turns out that those plastic bottles you drink out of are bad for you!

An URGENT Health Alert!

clean drinking waterOn average, each American drinks approximately 28.5 gallons of bottled water each year.  But, do you know what you are ingesting when you drink from plastic bottles?

Studies have found that 90% of Americans have BPA in their bodies.  BPA, a chemical called bisphenol-A, comes from dental fillings, environmental inhalation of pollutants, skin exposure, food and water.

BPA has been found to escape from the plastic bottles that contain our everyday drinking water and enters into the water itself.  BPA has qualities that are similar to estrogen and is thought to promote cancer and infertility.  Studies have shown that it may also lead to liver problems, breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Bottles containing BPA may be called polycarbonate, lexan, or polysulfone.  Recycled bottles containing BPA are marked with #7 on the bottom.

So, how much does drinking from a plastic bottle really increase your exposure to BPA?  It turns out it is a lot!

The Harvard School of Public Health conducted a study in 2008 which included 77 participants.  They began by cleansing their bodies of pollutants by drinking all their cold beverages from stainless steel bottles for one week.  The following week, they were given to two polycarbonate bottles from which all cold beverages were drank.

At the end of each week's time, the participants' urine was tested.  At the end of the week following them drinking from plastic bottles, their BPA levels had risen 69%!

So, if you drink from plastic bottles, you are increasing your levels of BPA and increasing your risk of health problems.

Heating plastic bottles increases the leaching of the BPA into the liquid.  Due to the fact that baby bottles are warmed before use, an alarm has been set off in regards to plastic bottles and feeding babies.  If you have a baby who uses a bottle, please make sure the bottles are BPA free!.

The small, single-serving bottles up to the 5-gallon water jugs all contain BPA residue.

So, is there anything you can do to avoid BPA?

Since everyone needs plenty of clean water, an excellent alternative to using the convenient plastic bottles is to buy a stainless steel water bottle or even a glass water bottle.  They make sleeves now to go over the glass to keep it from getting broken.  By using a filtration system on your kitchen faucet, you can have safe drinking water and convenience without the risks of cancer-causing chemicals.
