Food and Nutrition

Nowadays, it seems like everyone is worrying about the food they eat. Even folks who have never had good eating habits are getting in on the craze. My cousin just went on a diet because she seems to be starting to develop diabetes. Another friend of mine just wants to lose 20 pounds. In my case, I am a little bit worried about my family predisposition to heart disease. I don't want to die in my 50s. I want to live a long, healthy life. That is why it is so important that I start eating the right foods and exercising.

Food nutrition facts are confusing, but they are really important for you to know. I envy people who grew up with a healthy upbringing. People who had healthy dietary habits from when they were first born don't need to worry about food pyramids.  These people just know how to eat healthily. They even have a taste for healthy foods. For the rest of us – those raised on fatty foods, heavy carbohydrates, and too much meat – the food pyramid is an invaluable tool.

Of course, some people find food pyramids to be a little bit constrictive. After all, it is really hard to determine what is a serving of any particular food groups. You do not want to have to measure everything you eat, after all. Some people take a much more laid-back approach. They simply try to make sure to cook healthy meals every day. They only allow themselves to splurge every once in a while, and for the most part stay away from unhealthy foods. This is a great kind of healthy food diet as long as you don't lie to yourself. It is easy to deceive yourself And keep eating the unhealthy foods that you're used to. If you are honest with yourself, however, there is no reason that you really need to always use a food pyramid.

I bought a food pyramid the other day to put up on my fridge. It told me how much of each food group I should eat every day. The old food pyramid seemed to group up all of the different carbohydrates into one category, but now they know that some carbs are better for you than others. Too much pasta, for example, is not healthy. Eating complex grains such as whole grain rice, however, is much better for you. That is why it is important to use the new food pyramid.
