Lowering Your Triglycerides Naturally

Triglycerides are a fat in your blood that, if there is too much, it can lead to hardening of the arteries which increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and heart attack.

Foods and drinks that contain sugar are the worst foods for increasing triglyceride levels.

Calories that aren't used quickly are converted into triglycerides and are stored in your fat cells. When you need energy, the triglycerides will be released. Too many calories will lead to high triglyceride levels in your blood.

A simple blood test will show your triglycerides level.

  • Normal: Less than 150 mg/dL
  • Borderline-high: 150 to 199 mg/dL
  • High: 200 to 499 mg/dL
  • Very high: 500 mg/dL or higher

By exercising five or more days a week, you can lower your triglycerides.

High triglycerides can lead to serious health problems, but there are things that will get your levels back to normal.

  1. Reach your ideal weight.
  2. Avoid trans fats, but DO eat healthy fats like those from avocado, nuts and olive oil.
  3. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
  4. Alcohol can raise triglyceride levels.
  5. Eat omega-3 fats from wild fish or from a fish oil supplement.
  6. Cut out sugary foods and drinks.
  7. Exercise at least 30 minutes five or more days a week.
  8. Relax. Stress causes triglycerides to stay in your blood longer.
