Important Ways to Keep Your Toddler Safe in Your Home
Accidents are the leading cause of death for toddler. Everyone
needs to baby proof their home to protect their children or
grandchildren. Most people know to keep toxic chemicals out of a
child's reach, but there are others that you might not even think about.
- Block stairways to prevent children toppling down them.
More than 100 deaths are attributed to this each year.
- Keep blind cords and drapery cords out of reach of children.
- Keep your electrical outlets covered with outlets covers.
- Keep skillet handles turned where a toddler can't reach up and
grab it and pull it off onto them.
- Keep small objects picked up to prevent a child choking.
- Keep your windows locked. Thousands of children are
injured or killed by falling from open windows.
- Remove standing water. Children can drown in a tub,
swimming pool, pond, toilet or even a bucket of water. Always
close the toilet lid to remove the temptation of looking in, and
thereby, falling in headfirst.
- Watch children's fingers. 75% of all amputations in
children are because they were crushed in a door.
