Pilates
Joseph Pilates started the Pilates Method in the 1920s. He
believed that you had to be physically fit to be happy. Pilates is
the fastest growing fitness program.
Pilates works like yoga or tai chi in teaching the student to control
their breathing and controlling the body as well as the mind.
The movements incorporate 6 concepts:
- Breathing
- Centering
- Concentration
- Control
- Precision
- Rhythm or flow
Many dance students and sports teams have begun to use it, because it
adds strength, but does not bulk up the students. This makes them
look leaner and more muscular without large muscles.
There are DVDs that can teach you the movements, but there are many
trained instructors who can teach you the moves and ensure that you are
doing them properly. |
