Reducing the Risks of Allergies

allergyIt is best if you can keep your pets out of rooms that are commonly used by an allergic person.  Do not let the pet sleep in the same bedroom.

Try to remove carpets and rugs from the home.  Dust and dander collect in the fibers and it is not possible to remove them all.  Bare floors may be colder, but they are easy to clean.

Do not allow dust to accumulate on curtains and blinds.  Regular cleaning of these items will be necessary.

A clean house has less allergens that a dirty house.  If you are the person who has the allergies, you may want to recruit another member of the family to clean or even hire it done.

You can buy covers to seal the mattress and your pillows if dust mites are your allergen.  Wash your bedding once a week in hot water.  This rids the bedding of dust mites and other allergens.  Take a shower before bedtime to wash away pollen, mold and other allergy causing matter.

If you are allergic to pollen, keep you windows closed.  It may reduce your electric bills, but it will play havoc on your nose.  If you have been outside, it is best to change your clothes.  You may have pollen on them and bring it inside.  It is best not to mow your lawn.  If you must, please wear a pollen mask.

Mold grows most readily in basements and bathrooms.  It is best to avoid these rooms unless you can keep them clean and dry.
