Healthy Superfoods
Some
superfoods are great as meals, some as snacks and some, you might just
want to accent the main meal. But, no matter what, these foods are
healthy and you should include them in your diet. Beef, Grass-Fed
- Beef is an excellent source of iron, B vitamins and zinc. But,
since the advent of feed lots, the quality of the nutrients has
declined. Grass-fed cows produce meat that is leaner, has more
omega-3 fatty acids and less saturated fat than grain-fed beef.
The meat is more like venison which is nutritionally better than beef.
Cinnamon - Cinnamon is actually the bark off the cinnamon tree
which is native to Sri Lanka. Kids love it on toast, but research
shows that it helps to regulate blood sugar levels, has
anti-inflammatory properties and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Coconut Milk - It is rich in saturated fat, but people whose
diet is rich in coconut milk do not have heart disease. Plus,
studies have shown that coconut flakes, coconut cream, coconut milk and
coconut oil have lauric acid, which is an immune-boosting,
anti-bacterial fatty acid. Honey or Blackstrap Molasses - You
should try natural sweeteners instead of sugar. Unprocessed honey
has many phytonutrients and enzymes the help with digestion.
Blackstrap molasses has concentrated nutrients and is a good source of
iron and other minerals. Nuts - Nuts that are rich in
monounsaturated, polyunsaturated fats, and antioxidants are almonds,
cashews, hazelnuts and macadamia nuts. These are also rich in
antioxidants. Walnuts are excellent
for containing omega-3 fatty acids and Brazil nuts are rich in
selenium. Olive Oil - Olive oil has
monounsaturated fats, phenols and vitamin E. This means that olive
oil contains cancer-fighting antioxidants, fats that reduce inflammation
and vitamins that lower your risk of heart disease and protects your
skin and nerves from damage. |
