Vitamin C is a water-soluble, antioxidant vitamin and is also called
ascorbic acid. It aids in creating collagen which is a protein for building
bones, cartilage, muscle and blood vessels. It is used in the absorption of
iron into the body. Humans cannot create Vitamin C. It must be found in our
diets.
Along with the creation of collagen and other health functions, vitamin C
strengthens the immune system and combats free-radicals. It has been shown to
prevent many illnesses like the common cold all the way to cancer.
Vitamin C is found in many fruits (guava, papaya, oranges and orange juice)
and vegetables (bell pepper, broccoli, tomato juice, cabbage and spinach) and
is also found in cereals, beef, poultry and fish.
